My kids have so much to teach me. When I watch the weather forecast with imminent hurricanes, flash flood warnings, and torrential downpours, I start getting nervous. Not only do I think about how the weather is going to impact my weekend plans, but I also tense at the thought of being cooped up all day.
Not the kids. They EMBRACE the rain! When it starts to rain, the gutter at the end of our driveway turns into a fabulous river. What a perfect place to play! They put on their raincoats & rain boots, grab their boats, buckets and tiny guys and head out straight into it. They don’t have a thought about facing discomfort, being wet or chilly or getting sick. They just jump in with both feet into that exciting play land.
When they’re out there playing in Rainfall River, they’re laughing, problem-solving, working together, learning about gravity and the force of water. They taste the raindrops, smell the autumn leaves, and fully experience joy. They relish in the excitement and the novelty of rain.
